Bear was painted as a memorial for a couple who recently lost their dear old cat after he got sick. I'm told he loved to cuddle his blanket and he always slept with it, so this was painted with his blanket.
His owner told he he was not a lap cat. He would not crawl up on your lap to cuddle, but would lie right next to it, touching and this was his unique way of snuggling up and being loving. Apparently he liked to chat a lot and was also bossy. I've had a cat like that before so I can understand just how special he must've been.
I hope that this painting brings fond memories as well as smiles. I'm always honoured to paint these memorials and to be able to offer something special.
Although I have painted primarily with oils these past several years, I need to confess that I just love working with pastels. There is a freedom with pastels that no other medium gives me. I just love the softness I can achieve with them, as well as the detail. Loading a paint brush with oils to paint smaller detail work is very time consuming. Pastels allow me to just go! Hopefully I get many more pastel pet portrait commissions to work with in the near future.
There's another cat painting on my easel, this time an oil painting of two cats. I'll be tackling this one for perhaps another week and will definitely post once completed. Thanks for stopping by!
