Happy New Year everyone!

The year has started with a lot of studio work already and several commissions lined up.  These two cat paintings were Christmas commissions from the same client.  Tommy is a girl you know, and Indy is a tough little guy who wasn't expected to still be around, but here he is and let's hope he stays healthy for a long time!  Both were painted with oils on canvas.

Since it's the new year and I'm not busy enough ;-) I've decided to run a FREE PET PORTRAIT GIVEAWAY on my Facebook page!  Yes!  The rules are simple.

You must:
1.  Like my page
2.  Like the post itself
3.  Post your best pet photo in the comments

The winner will be announced Friday, January 12, 2018.  Please go ahead and enter, and best of luck!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!

This is my Shih Tzu Taja.  She's now 8 years old and I'd been wanting to paint her for a Christmas card for years but just wasn't able to until now.

Taja is camera shy.  She just hates having her picture taken!  I wasn't able to get her to pose, so I used an other photo I had already snuck of her a while back, and then while she was napping in the same spot, I held the little hat to her head so I could get the same light and shadows as in the photo reference.  This way, everything is accurate.

I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.  Actually, I LOVE this!  Maybe it's because it's my dog, but I just love it.  If you look closely, you'll see I even painted myself in the ornament.  We're always together all day long with she being my studio assistant and all, so why not be together in the painting? ;-)

Anyway, thank you to everyone for your support.  This has been an amazing year for me as an artist.  I left a good government job last February to pursue this crazy pet portrait artist thing, and the universe has blessed me!

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.  Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and happy and prosperous New Year to everyone!

P.S.  I've inserted a little video clip of her nose being detailed.
P.P.S.  I'd appreciate a Facebook Like if you're so inclined!  Both the page and the video.  That'd be cool. Thanks!

A Very Special Pet Portrait in Oil

Remembering Molly
11 x 14 Oil on linen
Carole Rodrigue ©2016
SOLD

This special painting was commissioned by a group to give as a gift.  I'm told they all loved it very much!

Painting this was so effortless.  I'm not saying this in a bragging kind of way.  What I mean is that the soft tones, lighting, and moment were such a pleasure to paint that it did not feel like work. I love the overall softness of the lighting and tones, which I feel contributed to rendering the perfect atmosphere for this gentle scene.  The special bond captured between a man and his best friend is so moving and the love is obvious.

I can't stress enough how much of an honour it is to be entrusted to capture these special moments.  As an artist, the satisfaction comes from the positive reactions people have to these works.  If I succeeded at accurately capturing a scene, a pet, person, or a moment, and the recipients are happy, then I am immensely satisfied.  That's when I feel a job has been well done, when I get positive feedback.  That's big.  HUGE!

Now, if you're thinking of commissioning your own special pet portrait, do not delay!  The holidays are coming really fast and time is required for an oil painting.  I'm already booked into October so be sure to reserve your space now.  I work from your quality photos to perfectly capture your pet's portrait on oil or pastel.
