Baby Eggplants and a Crow

Baby Eggplants
 8 x 10 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

Having seen so many beautiful eggplant paintings and never having painted one myself, I just had to try my hand at them today.  I painted this one this afternoon and I must say a more delicious colour to paint probably does not exist.  What a rich wonderful colour these are and such a joy to put on canvas! I think I'll be painting many more of these in the future.  I don't know what took so long.  On my list for future pieces are also little turnips.  They also have this gorgeous purple that's calling at me.

Below, I posted a studio shot of my latest large work.  This one is headed for a show in Killarney at the end of the month and I'm so delighted to have added a bird again in a still life. I'm going to have to get a feeder so I can photograph more birds.  I need birds in many paintings!

I hope you enjoy these.  The eggplant piece is up on eBay for only $50.00.

Red Apples Daily Painting

Red Apples No. 2
5 x 7 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

These apples have been sitting here for about a week and I needed to hurry and paint them before they end up spoiling or being eaten. A lot of the fruit here get painted before they ever get eaten.  I hope to paint at least three more this week.  Company's expected tomorrow until Friday, but I am going to try to squeeze in a few hours Wednesday and Thursday to get some painting done.  I would just get too antsy sitting so close to the studio and not paint.  Have a great day everyone, and thanks for stopping by.  :-)

An old antique iron that's been laying around the house since forever is today's subject.  I can't recall if  I've painted it before, but I was due for using it in a daily.  There are close up shots on eBay if you're interested.  Now it's back to my crow. . .

Strawberries Daily Painting

Strawberries
6 x 6 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

I hope everyone had a great weekend, and to my American friends, I hope your 4th of July celebrations were safe and fun!

I'm overloaded with strawberries purchased at a local farm, so of course the natural thing to do was paint some.  The rest have been taken care of. There's nothing like fresh berries when in season.  Supermarket strawberries just don't compare.  If you like this painting, it's up on eBay for three days only and the starting bid is $0.99 only!

There are ideas I'm going over for tomorrow's painting, so I hope to see you then.  I think I'm decided on what I want to do, which doesn't often happen.  Usually, these daily paintings are a last minute thought, a scramble around the house to see what I can paint.  That's the challenge in painting so often and believe me, it's not easy coming up with fresh ideas all the time.  I think that's the hardest part of the daily painting challenges.

Have a great night!

Silver & Cherry, Daily Painting

Silver & Cherry
6 x 6 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

With summer now here, summer fruit are everywhere and so are cherries.  This little tea goblet is always a joy to paint along with anything else, especially if it's red.  The background is more of a dark olive green.  With monitors, it's often hard to get accurate colour and they can appear different on various monitors.  The greener background really compliments the cherry.

Peonies are also in full bloom right now, so I have an itch to paint one.  I've got several ideas brewing right now so I'm really looking forward to doing something with a peony!

If you like this painting, the above link will take you to the eBay auction where it is listed for only $25.00 US.  Have a great day!

Egg & Eggshells Daily Painting

Egg & Eggshells
5 x 7 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

I was in the mood for eggs today.  Painting eggs are always a great exercise, as I've said before, so I often like to get back to them.  The past week has been crazy so I haven't had much time to spend on daily paintings, and it seems like I won't get a chance tomorrow either since I'll be at Artists on Elgin for part of the day, and then a private function at Open Studio where our show, The Grand Art Show, is being held.  It promises to be a fantastic evening so I'm really looking forward to it!

The La Cloche show is also around the corner, so I'm also crazy busy getting ready for that.  I still have one painting that needs finishing touches, so tonight's the night.  I might be up late, but that's the life, the artist's life.  I had started working on a magpie painting months ago and it's getting completed tonight no matter what!  I'm looking forward to sharing it too.

Egg & Eggshells is up for bids on eBay and you can have a look at it at the above link.  Thanks for stopping by, and I'll be back!

Apple, Egg, & Copper

While I still had these beautiful and colourful Gala apples, I decided to paint another along with some copper, and an eggshell.  I should've called this one "Apple Pie", but I kept it simple.  There are other close up photos on eBay.  If you like this one, click the above link to bid, or just to see the other photos.  All of the paintings I list have close up photos.

Thanks for looking, and have a great day!

Onions & Mortar Daily Painting

Onions & Mortar
8 x 10 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

Today's daily had to be onions.  I have never painted a red onion before, but I was compelled to capture the red tones in this today.  I think red onions might compete with apples for a favoured subject matter.  ;-)

Now I'm off to working on my giant piece again.  The clock is winding down and I really need to get this done by this weekend.  If you like Onions & Mortar, you can click here to bid on eBay. Thanks, and have a great day!

Orange Slice Daily Painting

Orange Slice
5 x 7 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

I'll be taking a few days off to work on my giant violin painting, but I just had to get this one done this morning.  It's listed on eBay for a low starting bid of only $0.01.  That's right.  eBay's a place to do crazy things.  You can click here to place a bid.

I've also got the official invitation for a show I'm participating in next month here in Sudbury.  Everyone is welcome for the opening reception and I do hope to meet some of you there! There's no admittance fee and refreshments will be served.  I promise it will be a fantastic show full of fabulous giant paintings!

Royal Albert China Teacup Daily Painting

Cup of Earl III
6 x 6 Oil
Carole Rodrigue 2014

I wasn't going to paint anything today seeing as it's Victoria Day here in Canada, but I couldn't help myself.  I got this gorgeous Royal Albert teacup the other day and just could not put off painting it any longer! And how fitting is it to paint a Royal Albert cup on this day of Queen Victoria's birthday? Prince Charles and Camilla are also in the country visiting.  So, Today was as good a day as any to paint this.

You may click here to bid on eBay.  Thanks for dropping in!

Apples & Teapot, Today's Painting a Day

Apples & Teapot
8 x 10 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

Here is today's painting.  This one took all day, up until just before 9:00 tonight.  A lot of hours have gone into this one in order to achieve the effect I was looking for.  Alla Prima painting doesn't have to leave heavy brush marks.  One can achieve a level of realism with a little added work. Not that I mind visible brush marks; I am a fan of brushwork and do like them. I do, however, love realism and blended finishes.  That's why I do what I do!  I'm very satisfied with how this turned out, and it was worth the work! I hope you like it too. If you do, you can click here to bid on eBay.  Thanks for looking!

P.S.  Did you know that I usually post a couple of close up detail shots on eBay?

Cocoa Pup

Today's daily painting is something I've been wanting to paint since Easter when I received a box of chocolate animals.  I added a ribbon and voila.  I've also got a little bear left over that I haven't eaten and am planning a larger piece with both the dog and the bear.  I hope you like today's painting!  If you do, you can click here to bid on eBay. Bidding starts at $25.00.

Fall Leaves & Small Pumpkin
5 x 7 Oil on hard board
Carole Rodrigue Copyright 2013

This little fall treasure was painted last week but wasn't posted until this weekend.  The reason? I was in Banff for the week enjoying the greatest vacation ever in the mountains and at the Banff Springs Hotel.  It was more enjoyable than I ever dreamed and I started missing the place as soon as I left.  So, because of this vacation, I didn't want to list a painting on eBay if I couldn't be around to ship it.  Now I'm back, and here it is!  I hope you enjoy this one, and if you do, you can click here to bid on eBay.

Before signing off, here are a couple of photos from the trip.  The first one was taken during our visit at Lake Louise, and the second is the view from my room on the day we left.  There was no snow on the mountains when we got there but by the time we left, they were all covered and magical.
