Cozy & Warm, a Still Life to Warm and Soothe

 Warm & Cozy
8 x 10 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

Since we're already covered in snow, and seeing all the snow Buffalo got this week, I really felt the need to paint something warm and cozy.  I arranged these things together, the cinnamon and pinecone, hot tea, and checkered cloth to create the atmosphere I wanted to evoke.  I'm satisfied with how this turned out.  It's not a daily painting however.  There was just too much detail to paint and many layers to create the right effect, but, it is still listed for the price of a daily.  Folks, this is a steal!  It's now up on eBay.

P.S.  I hope everyone in Buffalo stays warm and safe!

Bosc Pear No. 6 Alla Prima Daily Painting

Bosc Pear No. 6
7 x 5 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

I had purchased many pears last week for the still life with the Indian tea pot, so I thought I use one of these today for a small alla prima painting.  I'm loving painting those pears! Now I need to try and think of something to paint for tomorrow . . .

Grapes & Gold Cup Still Life

Grapes & Gold Cup
6 x 6 Oil Daily Painting
Carole Rodrigue 2014

Today was a grape day.  I haven't painted them in a long time, so I was due.  I'm not sure why I haven't painted them in suck a long while because they're a delight to paint.  It's now up on eBay.

I also want to let everyone know that it's that time of year and I am accepting pet portrait commissions.  Prices start at $200.00 US for an 11 x 14 oil painting.  Contact me for more info.  There's still time, but not for long so please don't wait!  Here's a portrait I did last year, "Shaggy", and I'm told there were tears of joy when the owner saw her beloved dog's painting.  Please don't wait!

Blue Bottle Alla Prima Still Life

Blue Bottle & Fruit
8 x 10 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

This blue vase caught my eye a while back while browsing in a store and I knew it had to come home with me.  It's been waiting to be painted for a while now, and I'm so happy I finally got around to using it in combination with fruits that were in the kitchen.  This painting was painted alla prima, in one sitting.  It's now up on eBay if you're interested, and there are close up shots there as well. Thanks for looking!

Two New Works

Royal Albert, Teapot, & Hollyhock Bloom
8 x 10 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

Tomatoes, Onion, & Bottle
8 x 10 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

Summertime has cut somewhat into my painting time but I did manage these two as well last week.  The first one with the teapot is now up for auction on eBay with a starting bid of only $49.99,  and the other one was sold within an hour of the painting being completed and is on its way to its new home in California.  I can't tell you how much fun it is to sell something while the paint is still wet! So, don't miss your chance on the teacup.  If you want it, you can click here to see it on eBay.  Have a great day!

Antique Whiskey Jug & Apples Daily Painting

Antique Whiskey Jug & Apples
8 x 10 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

This whiskey jug has been sitting in my studio collecting dust for years.  It has been very much neglected, I must say, and I think it's high time I started painting it more.  I absolutely love how it looks in paintings so I can't say why I haven't painted it more often.  I've visualized so many different paintings with it in mind yet have never gotten around to any of them.  So, here's to starting to paint this jug more often!

If you like this one, it is now up on eBay for auction.

Lemon & Finger Bowl Daily Painting

Lemon & Finger Bowl
8 x 10 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

Today's painting is a lemon with a finger bowl.  It's been a while since I painted a lemon so I figured it was time I did.  I set up my props with natural back lighting, as I enjoy doing so much.  I often paint with artificial light for some of my work, especially chiaroscuro, but natural lighting also brings  something to a painting which artificial light can't.  There's a certain subtlety in natural lighting that I find calming and it works really well for me and my style.

If you like this one, you can click here to view on eBay and to place a bid.  There are also close up shots on eBay.  See you tomorrow!

Pear, Daily Oil Painting

Pear No 3
6 x 6 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

Today I was compelled to paint a pear, backlit by window light.  I love painting backlit scenes.  It's something I've always done, even back when I was painting horses regularly.  There's something about backlighting that is dramatic and captivating.  I hope you enjoy this one, if you do, the link for the eBay auction is in the painting's description.  Have a great evening!  <3

Strawberry & Silver Daily Painting

Strawberry & Silver
6 x 6 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

It's that time of year in some areas where plump, delicious strawberries are waiting to be picked.  The season here is a little later, usually around July the 1st.  I'm not sure we'll have them at that time with the cold spring we had, so thank heaven for the store! I haven't painted enough strawberries and I'm thinking I should paint more.  I have plans for a larger piece once I'm done my giant violin painting.

By the way, I'm going to take the opportunity to remind everyone that The Grand Show will be hosting its opening reception Saturday, June 14th from 1:00-4:00 at Open Studio, 93f Cedar St., here in Sudbury.  There will be giant works from 10 artists including myself. I'm honoured that I'll be showing with the great Ivan Wheale and other area artists represented by Artists on Elgin. It's sure to be a fantastic show with such huge works displayed.  Please do come if you're in the area!

Take care for now and I'll be back tomorrow with a new painting.  :-)

Onion Soup Painting a Day

Onion Soup
8 x 10 Oil on Canvas Panel
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

Today was a cold day here, the kind of day that makes one hungry for a nice comforting bowl of soup.  So, with that in mind, I decided to paint this onion with an onion soup dish.  I've been really enjoying painting with whites lately, so why break the trend? This one is now up for bids on eBay by clicking here.

Before I go, I also wanted to announce that Cup of Earl II was selected by art critic Brian Sherwin as FASO's daily art pick last week.  You can see this here.  Cup of Earl has been sold as of tonight.  :-)

Cocoa Pup Chocolate Dog Daily Painting

Cocoa Pup Learns
6 x 6 Oil on canvas panel
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

Today's painting is of Cocoa Pup.  You might remember that I painted this little chocolate dude last fall.  I will eventually have him doing all sorts of things, and create different fun and interesting paintings with Cocoa Pup.  He is just so much fun to paint! The possibilities are endless.  I just hope he lasts as long as my ideas keep coming.  If you like him, you can click here to bid on eBay.  Thanks for stopping by!

Silver & Fruit II Daily Oil Painting

Silver & Fruit II
8 x 10 Oil on hardboard
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

After having painted Silver & Fruit last week, I enjoyed the piece so much that I decided to paint a complementary painting but with  a different piece of silver and a pear instead of an orange.  Red pears are such a luscious deep shade of red, and oh so fun to paint! I've been deliberately neglecting shining my silver too, I must admit.  There's something about those dark shades and other colors that show through tarnished silver that make them so appealing in art.  I suppose I will have to shine everything soon, but for now I'm enjoying painting these tarnished pieces.  If you would like to bid on this one, you may click here.  Thanks for looking!

Apple No.3 Daily Painting

Apple No. 3
4 x 6 oil on canvas panel
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

Today's daily painting is a nice juicy red apple.  It's been a while since I painted an apple, so I figured I was due.  You may click here to bid on eBay.  Thanks for looking! :-)

Tiffany's Box & Charm Daily Painting

Tiffany's Box & Charm
8 x 10 Oil on hardboard
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

Okay, I must say, if ever there was a painting that I've created that put me in a cheerful spring mood, this one is it! I worked all day on this one, so it's a steal at the open bidding price.  Well, all of my eBay listings are a steal . . . Anyway, I can't tell you how much I enjoyed painting this one.  I must admit I played with a few greens before giving myself a smack on the side of the head when I finally figured my correct mixture.  After several tries, I got a paint mix that satisfied my eye.  I love this painting! If you do too, you can click here to bid on eBay.  I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter and enjoy the long weekend! <3

Silver Creamer & Pear Daily Painting

Silver Creamer & Pear
8 x 10 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

This week has been a hectic one, cutting into my painting time but I did finally manage to paint this daily.  It can get a little difficult to find subjects to paint, so I must keep looking around the house to see what I have.  Well, I have this magnificent silver set so it's a no brainer to paint some of its pieces from time to time.  It is now up for auction on eBay with a low starting bid of $49.99.  Have a fantastic day and I'll see you soon!

Vase Still Life Daily Painting

Vase Still Life
8 x 10 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

Today's daily is of a vase I have in my collection of various Navajo and Acona pottery. This could be either, I'm not certain, but it is definitely Southwest! Every once in a while I like to pull these out and paint them.  I will definitely be painting more in the future.  I wasn't so sure I'd be able to complete this one today but I managed! If you like this one, you can place your bid on eBay by clicking here.

Camembert & Grapes No. 2 Painting a Day

Camembert & Grapes No. 2
5 x 7 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

Shortly before Christmas, I had painted a painting which was similar to this one. I received so much positive response and requests for more, so I painted a similar piece.  I never paint the same piece twice since each painting is a one of a kind original, but a variation on themes is okay.  I hope you enjoy this one.  If you do, you may click here to bid on eBay.  :-)

Green Apple Painting a Day

Green Apple
5 x  7  Oil
Carole Rodrigue © 2014

Today's daily painting is a nice bright piece with a green apple.  Sometimes, cloudy winter skies give one the need for something bright, so I painted a bit of cheer in a brighter painting.  If you like this one, it's available through eBay auction.  Thanks for stopping by!

Lunch, Eggs & Salt Shaker Still Life

8 x 10 Oil on masonite
Carole Rodrigue copyright 2014

Here is my second painting of 2014, an 8 x 10 still life.  I've mentioned before how I love the challenge of painting eggs.  These simple object can be easily messed up if not done quite right, and I'm satisfied with these.  Painting the salt shaker was also a joy, trying to get the exact values and shadows in the white, as well as getting the glass and steel just right.

I haven't done any daily paintings yet this year but I think I'm going to do one this weekend.  It's been a while since I've done a daily, so I'm up to the challenge again.  I hope you enjoy this one, and you can click here to view on eBay where it's listed for auction with a very low starting bid of $49.99.
