Croissant Alla Prima Still Life

6 x 6 Oil (alla prima)
Carole Rodrigue ©2015

I feel as though my well is running dry lately and I often don't know what to paint.  This can become very frustrating as well as stressful.  I wake up in a panic some mornings because I feel uninspired at times.  Today was one of those days, and just when I was ready to give up, I spotted croissants on the counter.  Whew! I can't tell you what a relief it was to see something I could paint today.  I'm serious, these things really gnaw at me.

This is now up on eBay.

Pear, Daily Oil Painting

Pear No 3
6 x 6 Oil
Carole Rodrigue ©2014

Today I was compelled to paint a pear, backlit by window light.  I love painting backlit scenes.  It's something I've always done, even back when I was painting horses regularly.  There's something about backlighting that is dramatic and captivating.  I hope you enjoy this one, if you do, the link for the eBay auction is in the painting's description.  Have a great evening!  <3

Lunch, Eggs & Salt Shaker Still Life

8 x 10 Oil on masonite
Carole Rodrigue copyright 2014

Here is my second painting of 2014, an 8 x 10 still life.  I've mentioned before how I love the challenge of painting eggs.  These simple object can be easily messed up if not done quite right, and I'm satisfied with these.  Painting the salt shaker was also a joy, trying to get the exact values and shadows in the white, as well as getting the glass and steel just right.

I haven't done any daily paintings yet this year but I think I'm going to do one this weekend.  It's been a while since I've done a daily, so I'm up to the challenge again.  I hope you enjoy this one, and you can click here to view on eBay where it's listed for auction with a very low starting bid of $49.99.

Teacup & Feather

Teacup & Feather
5 x 7 Oil on hardboard
Carole Rodrigue copyright 2013

Hello friends! I managed to paint this one last week.  Working on the detail on this one was extremely hard on the eyes, and I now know that next time, I will be using a larger substrate for these detailed cups! This is a small 5 x 7, so just imagine how much smaller this cup is.  No easy feat! I am very satisfied with the results however.  This one is available, so if you're interested you can contact me here.

I also want to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas! Please make it a safe one and we'll meet again shortly after.  ‹3

Cherry Still Life up for Auction

I've been super busy working on a larger than life painting. It's a huge 36 x 48 piece and I am almost done. In a little ate in posting but this painting had taken longer to complete than I had imagined. Hopefully tomorrow or the next day I should be done. Some things can't be rushed!

In the meantime, I'm starting to work on small daily paintings which are being put up for auction on eBay. This is a fantastic way for anyone to start collecting one of my original pieces for a low price. The first piece is Cherry No. 1. It's a 5 x7 oil painted on masonite. You can bid on this painting by clicking on this link.

Bowl of Cherries
18 x 14 Oil
Carole Rodrigue Copyright 2012
Here's my latest painting, lovely rich and juicy cherries. I love painting cherries and capturing the varying reds and dark tones they have.

My technique for cherries is again a series of layers and glazes. I used two different reds in this, Quinacridone red and Alizarin, each mixed with minute drops of either black or blue as needed. I think there are about five layers of work on the cherries. Some things just can't be rushed. :-)

I have one or two more pieces I now need to start for my show in April. I've been playing with arrangements for another Venetian mask piece but haven't settled on anything that sings to me yet. I'd better play around some more because I really need to get this drawn out and have my under painting done today! Pressure. So on that note, I need to get at it. Thank you for stopping by and enjoy this beautiful Sunday morning. :-)

Another New Still Life With an Apple!

18 x 24 Oil
Copyright Carole Rodrigue 2012

Yes, I seem to be on an apple kick.  But I love it!  This one is another piece for my April show.  I'm almost done my work on another piece, and yes, there is an apple in the next one also, although it's glass.

The paintings one can come up with using apples is limitless, red ones, green ones, fake ones, different varieties . . .  Oh the possibilities!

But there you have it folks and now I must be off to clean paint brushes. I hope you like this one and I also hope to post another this week if I'm done. I'm so eager to get on with a new one!  And yes, maybe there will be a few more apple pieces to come before I move on to something else.

Thank you for dropping in and for those of you braving Sandy, stay safe!

TLA, New Oil Painting

14 x 11 original oil
Copyright Carole Rodrigue 2011

Hi everyone, it has been a very long time since I've posted. This year has been a year filled with challenges and loss for me. The biggest was losing my mother, who had been diagnosed with cancer in March and then passed away on June 4th.  Needless to say, my attentions have been elsewhere this past year. I'm thankful I've had my art as an outlet and as a haven. Yes, I have still painted even though I haven't posted.

I've also started painting with oils again and wanted to share this piece which I called TLA. True Love Always. I remember childhood days with my friends, spending sunny afternoons outdoors and talking about the boy who would be our great love. We used to carve TLA, or write it down everywhere we could. Those are fond childhood memories -- the naivety and hopefulness of youth, fantasizing about wonderful futures, and great loves. What a girlie thing to do!  That's what this painting is for me though, the thought of wonderful futures, filled with blessings and wonder.  Even though life may throw major challenges our way, there is still always something to be amazed with, to hope for, and to smile about.  I hold on to my childhood wonder and hope. It is what keeps people always going forward, not looking back with sorrow.  Something exciting and wonderful is always just around the corner, and this also fuels my artistic soul.

There are a few commissions I'm also working on at the moment, some which won't be posted until much later due to them being gifts for people.  I'm happily painting away in my studio and letting my inner child splash paint on canvases. I will be sure to share more really soon!  Thank you so much for dropping by, and take care.
